Eat the Rainbow – fruit

A fun activity to encourage children of all ages to try different types of fruit.

Display bowls of as many chopped up fruit as you can. Use frozen when required out of season.

Here are some suggestions:

Red – strawberries, raspberries, apples
Orange – satsumas/oranges, mango
Yellow – banana, melon, pineapple
Green – kiwi, grapes
Blue – blueberries
Purple – red grapes

Invite children to create a rainbows on their plate.

How to Eat your Rainbow!

  1. Just gobble it up straight from the plate.
  2. Make a smoothie from the fruit rainbow plus apple juice and yoghurt (fresh mint and ginger can also be added for extra zing).
  3. Make a fruit kebab.

Supplies required:

approx 10 bowls & spoons to display fruit
knife & chopping board to cut fruit
one plate per child to make rainbows on
one beaker per child for smoothie
smoothie blender (and power source)/smoothie bike
aprons
kitchen roll
take-away containers for participants to take home surplus fruit
